"The Sadhu" is named after the Hindu holy men who renounce worldly life in search of spiritual enlightenment. This was my state of mind when I abruptly left my job, apartment, and relationships behind in search of a deeper life. I've always been intrigued by religion and spirituality so when I began making art it became a sacred practice. It was a way for me to record what I was learning through a rigorous process of self-inquiry. This portrait was created to represent the aspect of myself who was seeking the truth. But when it was revealed that this aspect is also just a concept that was no longer needed the image went up in flames and the series was complete.
