My Cloisters began as a series of sketches drawn in the galleries of The Met Cloisters while working evenings as a security guard. Over the course of a year, working on this piece became a daily ritual that brought my passion to new depths. Created while facing the dark night of the soul, this piece uses 30 sheets of intricately cut colored card stock to represent my life's journey. The flowing liquid tells a story of ambition, disillusionment, turmoil and surrender contained within a space that is alive. At center lies the silhouette of the experiencer, defined by forms around it yet filled with emptiness, bravely weathering the violent mechanics of a mind seeking to extract meaning from chaos.
